How do I find substance abuse treatment for myself, a family member, or a friend?

Treatment referrals are obtainable from one’s primary care physician, the county substance abuse services office (check the government pages in the phone book), the yellow pages, county hospital emergency rooms, and state associations of addiction medicine, such as CSAM (California Society of Addiction Medicine). If you need help locating your state chapter, ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) will provide that information for you. Their web site at www.ASAM.org

To locate the drug and alcohol abuse treatment programs nearest you, follow this link and you'll find a place near you.  www.findtreatment.samhsa.gov/facilitylocatordoc.htm

How do I volunteer/intern at the Haight Ashbury Free Clinics?
The Haight Ashbury Free Clinics depends on volunteers and interns to assist in providing almost all of its services. We need medical professionals, counselors, office support, and probably any other professional skills that you have to offer. Please read our volunteer page for contact information.

How can I get more information on a specific drug?
Two web sites with drug information are www.health.org and www.nida.nih.gov/DrugAbuse.html.
NIDA has a fax-back number that will fax monographs to you: (888) 889-6432.
Do It Now Foundation has brochures: (602) 491-0393.

I am researching drug use/abuse, and would like any articles you may have.
We receive many requests for research assistance in the area of drug use and abuse, and unfortunately we do not have the resources to address all requests.
If you are conducting general research on substance abuse issues, we ask that you first make use of your local libraries.  If you have a specific question within our expertise, please contact us for further information.
